Chica’s Cantina New Open
Chica’s Cantina, the modern Mexican-inspired concept from husband-and-wife restaurateurs Vikrant Multani and Christian Nava, is now officially open to the public at 1015 E. Main St. in Louisville’s Butcher Block.
Known for their acclaimed vegan restaurant Shahar, the duo expands their culinary footprint with a vibrant taquería that blends authentic Mexican roots with contemporary flair. Chica’s Cantina delivers bold flavors, inventive cocktails, and an energetic atmosphere designed to bring people together.
The restaurant offers an intimate yet lively dining experience, with seating for 15 guests in the main dining room and additional seating on the second floor. Looking ahead to warmer months, Chica’s Cantina will expand its footprint with a large patio space opening this spring, creating even more room for guests to gather, dine, and enjoy the neighborhood energy.
“Opening Chica’s Cantina has been a labor of love,” co-owner Vikrant Multani said in a news release. “We wanted to create a space that feels joyful, welcoming, and full of life—where great food, cocktails, and community come together in the historic Butcher Block neighborhood. We’re excited to finally open our doors and share it with Louisville.”
The menu showcases modern taquería fare with something for everyone, including Chica’s Special Ribeye tacos, Steak Trompo, Al Pastor Trompo, Crispy Mushroom tacos, and more. Guests can expect house-made tortillas, bold flavors, and shareable plates designed for casual dining and late-night cravings.
“When I moved to Louisville from California, I couldn’t find the street-style tacos I grew up with—so I wanted to bring that energy here. And the name ‘Chica’ is personal: it’s what my little sisters have called me since they were toddlers. It felt like the perfect heart behind the restaurant.” co-owner Christian Nava said.
The beverage program is equally strong, featuring expertly crafted margaritas, agave-forward cocktails, and a high-energy bar experience led by bar manager Bentley Harrell. From classic margaritas to elevated cocktails, the drink menu is designed to complement the food and keep the vibe going late into the night.
The restaurant’s lively interior features bright colors, hand-painted murals, and design elements that reflect both Mexican heritage and Butchertown’s industrial character.
Developer Andy Blieden, who has played a key role in the revitalization of the Butcher Block, says the opening marks another exciting step for the neighborhood. “Chica’s Cantina adds exactly the kind of energy and creativity we envisioned for the Butcher Block,” Blieden said. “Vik and Christian have a unique ability to create spaces that feel both thoughtful and fun, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to this growing dining destination.”
Chica’s Cantina opened today, Friday, February 6 following a ribbon cutting ceremony with Suzanne Manuel Wright, Deputy Chief of Staff for the Mayor. The restaurant looks forward to contributing to Louisville’s evolving food scene while supporting continued economic development in Butchertown.
