The Paqui One-Chip Challenge With Writer/Author Kevin Gibson

I recently took to YouTube to take the Paqui One Chip Challenge. In a word, it was hot.

But that’s sort of the point — to get some idiot to eat something they should never put into their mouths, just to get them to make the product go “viral” to drive more sales. But since I love hot peppers and other spicy foods, I went for it, in part to see how much of a pepperhead I really am.

As you’ll see in the video, while I managed to mostly maintain my composure, my experience was littered with phrases like “Oh my goodness” and “Oh mama” and “I’m out.” Another overriding theme? “No one needs to do this.” And I stand by that sentiment. Was it fun? Sure. Was it an extreme endorphin rush? Oh, hell yes, it was.

But these dark blue chips — which also are designed to turn your tongue blue — are fueled by the Carolina Reaper Pepper, which is recognized as the hottest peppper on Earth, and the Trinidad Scorpion pepper, another one that’s high on the list in Scoville Units. In short, the average person has no business getting involved with this Paqui One Chip Challenge. You know, unless they’re insane.
