The upcoming Green Bay Packers season brings with it another new book on the team's history.
"The Green Bay Packers: An Illustrated Timeline" by Kevin Gibson with Cheesehead TV is scheduled for release Sept. 15 by Reedy Press, but Packers fans will be able to get an early look during a Green Bay event.
Gibson and Cheesehead TV will do a presentation and book signing from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 29 at St. Brendan's Inn, 234 S. Washington St. It's free and open to the public.
The 176-page hardcover book takes readers through more than 100 years of the legacy of the winningest franchise in NFL history, from its 1919 beginnings to the Glory Years under Vince Lombardi to the present. Every former Packer in the Pro Football Hall of Fame gets his own chapter. Modern-day favorites like Donald Driver and Jordy Nelson are also featured. Gibson's favorite player, Bart Starr, gets plenty of ink.
The book devotes much space to the dynasty teams of the 1960s, but the 1920s and 1930s championship teams are also covered as well the Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers eras.
In addition to game stories with statistics and player profiles with quotes, readers will learn about the man who designed the "G" logo, the invention of famous Cheesehead hat, the season ticket waiting list and team historian Cliff Christl. If you didn't know the Packers were the first team to ever fly to a game in an airplane, you will by book's end.

A Packers fan since he was a 9-year-old kid in 1975, Gibson proposed to his fiancée just outside the south end zone of Lambeau Field while wearing his Antonio Freeman jersey. He currently lives in Louisville but gets to Green Bay at least once a year.
He has written 10 other books and is a regular contributor to Cheesehead TV, the Packers media platform founded in 2007 by college friends Aaron Nagler and Corey Behnke that offers daily written, video, audio, social and livestreaming coverage of the team.
